Labor Day: A Little Rest, a Little Fun & One Last Taste of Summer

Labor Day: A Little Rest, a Little Fun & One Last Taste of Summer ☀️

Labor Day weekend has a funny way of sneaking up on us. It feels like we were just kicking off summer, and suddenly September is here, the kids are back in school, the evenings are getting a little shorter, and pumpkin everything has begun its annual takeover.

But summer isn't over until Michigan says it's over... and Michigan changes its mind about the weather approximately every 20 minutes. 😂 So before we completely surrender to sweaters, cider, and fall décor, Labor Day gives us one more long weekend to squeeze every last drop out of summer.

One More Weekend of Summer Fun ☀️

Labor Day is a time to recognize the hard work and contributions of American workers—and after working hard all year, we think a long weekend involving absolutely no alarm clock sounds pretty reasonable.

Here in Michigan, we know better than to waste a beautiful late-summer weekend. It's the perfect excuse for one more trip to the lake, a backyard cookout, a bonfire, a farmers market, or one of those drives down a country road where nobody really knows where they're going... but somehow you end up at an ice cream stand.

And then there's the food.

Burgers and hot dogs on the grill, corn on the cob, potato salad, watermelon, chips, dips, and enough desserts to feed the entire neighborhood. Someone will inevitably announce that they're "too full for dessert" and then mysteriously appear five minutes later holding a plate of brownies.

It's Labor Day. We don't ask questions. 😂

Enjoy the Place You Call Home 🏡

Long weekends are also a great reminder to simply enjoy home. Sit on the porch with your morning coffee. Fire up the grill. Invite a few friends over. Let the dogs run around the backyard. Or spend an entire afternoon doing absolutely nothing productive.

That last one is still technically a plan.

And because we are in real estate, we have to sneak just a tiny bit of real estate talk in here somewhere. September can actually be a great time to start thinking about buying or selling. There are still motivated buyers searching for homes, and some homeowners are hoping to make their move before the holidays—and before Michigan winter reminds us who's really in charge.

If a move has been somewhere in the back of your mind, Labor Day weekend might be a good time to start thinking about it.

But maybe wait until after the potato salad. 😉

Summer Isn't Quite Finished Yet 🌻

Labor Day may be called the unofficial end of summer, but we're not packing away the patio furniture just yet.

There are still warm afternoons to enjoy, backroads to explore, bonfires to have, and probably at least a few more days when you'll leave the house wearing a sweatshirt in the morning and deeply regret that decision by lunchtime.

That's September in Michigan.

Soon enough we'll be surrounded by pumpkins, colorful leaves, apple cider, football, and people debating whether September 1st is too early to decorate for fall. (For the record, we're staying out of that argument. 🎃😂)

For now, we're hanging onto summer just a little bit longer.

However you spend Labor Day weekend, take some time to relax, eat something delicious, enjoy the people you love, and appreciate the place you call home.

And if your weekend involves a lawn chair, something on the grill, and absolutely no idea what day it is... we'd say you're doing Labor Day correctly.
